The Global Plus Pass
- What is the Global Plus Pass?
-
The Global Plus Pass is a beta product developed by Eurail, designed to offer you all the benefits of a regular mobile Global Pass, in addition to seat reservation credits.
You can use these credits to reserve most seats you may need during your travels without any additional booking fees. This means you can travel on most trains in the Interrail network without worrying about surprise fees for seat reservations – and you get to do it seamlessly, all in one place.
- How does the Global Plus Pass work?
-
After purchasing a Plus Pass, you can use your credits to book mandatory and/or recommended seat reservations for trains across Europe with our easy-to-use reservation booking system.
Note: Your credits are only valid to make seat reservations via our booking system. On this page, you will find a list of carriers on which you can reserve seats using the Plus Pass.
Simply add any reservations you need for your trip to your cart and proceed to checkout. The total value of the order will appear as 0 (or free), as long as you have enough credits left to book your seats. Remember, even if the reservation is free, you must book your seat if it’s mandatory for your train journey.
We recommend booking your seat reservations in advance, as many popular trains book up quickly. Purchasing a Plus Pass does not guarantee your preferred seat reservations.
If you’d like to check the number of seats available for Interrail Pass holders before purchasing your Pass, check the website of the railway carrier operating the train or check out our guide.
When you're ready to travel, please consult our mobile Pass guide to learn everything you need to know.
- How does the Global Plus Pass credit system work?
-
For Plus Pass holders, seat reservations for most train journeys cost 0 credits, so you can book all the seats you need to plan your dream itinerary.
Reservations on high-demand train journeys may cost 1 or more credits depending on the level of demand. The Global Plus Pass gives you 3 reservation credits to use for booking journeys like these.
You can find the list of trains with seat reservations that can be booked with the Plus Pass here. Note: The number of credits required to travel on routes are subject to change.
- What if I run out of credits to use for booking seats on high demand trains?
-
If you run out of reservation credits and want to book a reservation on a high-demand train that costs 1 or more credits, you will be charged the regular Interrail Pass holder fare for the extra reservations, plus a booking fee.
- When can I travel with my Plus Pass?
-
Travellers must activate their Pass and begin their trip within 3 months of the date of purchase.
From the moment of purchase, you can activate your Pass and start your adventure. You may book reservations for travel between the start and end date of your Pass.
Note: To travel, you must activate a travel day, add each journey you plan to take that day to your Pass and book any mandatory seat reservations.
- What if my travel plans change?
-
With the Plus Pass, you can enjoy a smoother, more flexible reservation experience. To keep seats free for other travellers, please follow the fair use policy outlined in our Terms and Conditions and only reserve seats for journeys you plan to take.
If your plans change and you will no longer use a reservation you made, please cancel it to free up the seat for another traveller.
If you use 1 or more credits to book a train journey, the credit cannot be returned to you. However, in some cases — depending on the carrier and type of reservation — it can be exchanged before the original departure time. Some exchanges require payment of an exchange fee.
For example, to exchange Eurostar reservations, please visit the Eurostar website, click “Manage Booking” and follow the process required by Eurostar.
Alternatively, for Trenitalia trains, please visit the Reservation Overview section of your Interrail account, select the ticket you wish to exchange and follow the prompts.
Please consult our exchange and refund conditions page for additional carrier-specific information. If you have additional questions about reservations, please reach out to our Customer Service team.
Note: In order to maximise seat availability for travellers, Plus Pass holders cannot book duplicate journeys for the same day. For example, you cannot book a seat for the route from Rome to Florence at 9:00 and also at 11:00 for the same day, unless you cancel the original reservation before the train’s scheduled departure time. If a Plus Pass holder decides to book a second reservation on the same route for the same day without cancelling the original reservation, the regular Interrail Pass holder fare must be paid.
- I’m travelling with someone else. Can we book our seat reservations together?
-
You may only book reservations with another traveller if they are also a Plus Pass holder with a matching class (for example, a first class Plus Pass holder can book reservations together with another first class Plus Pass holder).
Note: Credits are personal and connected to a specific Pass; they cannot be transferred to another person or connected to a new Pass.
- Are there any exclusions I should keep in mind?
-
Credits can be used for all regional trains, cross-border trains and high-speed trains available to book in our reservation booking system. On this page, you will find a list of carriers on which you can reserve seats using the Plus Pass.
However, there are a few exceptions to consider:
- It is not currently possible to book reservations for trains that are not included in our reservation booking system or for any trains that require a paper ticket. Note: this means that reservations for trains in certain countries cannot be booked with the Plus Pass, as they are not available to book with our reservation system.
- If you would like to book a reservation that cannot be booked on our site or book a paper reservation, you will need to pay the regular Interrail fare separately. To enhance our travellers' booking experience, we are continuously working towards adding more countries and routes to our reservation system.
- You can use the Plus Pass to book seats on night trains; however, you cannot use the credits to book sleeping accommodations. If you wish to reserve a sleeping accommodation on a night train with your Plus Pass, you will need to pay the regular Interrail Pass holder fare.
- Lastly, with the Plus Pass, it is only possible to make reservations for trains, not buses or ferries. However, Plus Pass holders may take advantage of discounts for transportation included in our Benefits Portal.
- I'm seeing the notification "Additional supplement required" when I search for routes on the timetable. What does that mean?
-
Don't worry; you can still board these trains with your Interrail Pass; however, you need to buy an additional supplement to board the train. Learn more about supplements here.
- Can I request a refund?
-
The Plus Pass is 100% refundable within 7 days of Purchase and 90% refundable thereafter. Your Plus Pass can be refunded and exchanged when these conditions are met:
- Your Pass is not activated;
- You must not have booked any seat reservations included with your Plus Pass; and
- You must submit your refund or exchange request by no later than the last possible activation date.
If you have any questions, please reach out to our customer service team.
